The Shimmy Sirens | 2026 Austin Migrations Performance – “Ala Meen” Saidi Cane Dance

My intermediate troupe, the Shimmy Sirens, performed their Saidi cane choreography at the Austin Migrations festival this January — and they brought so much energy, sass, and presence to the stage. This experience wasn’t just about learning and performing choreography… this was about stepping into confidence, trusting themselves, and dancing big.

Saidi is one of those styles that asks for strength, playfulness, and attitude all at once — and these dancers rose to the occasion in such a beautiful way. Watching them take everything we’ve worked on in class and translate it to a live audience… it just makes my heart so full.

Break Out of Basic Zills with This Funky Pattern 🎶 #fingercymbals

🙌 Ready to shake up your zill practice and try something a little different?

In this video, we’re building a short, super fun riff using groupings of 5s, 3s, and 7s — simple pieces that come together into something surprisingly rich, musical, and just a bit brain-bendy.

We’ll:

1. Build the riff step-by-step

2. Play it while marking the beat with the body (or go all in and dance!)

3. Then level things up by accenting the beat with a clack inside the repeating pattern

Even though each part is simple, putting it all together becomes a really satisfying challenge — the kind that stretches your coordination, timing, and musical awareness.

Here is our pattern: 1e&a2 &a3e& 4e&a1 &a2e&a3 &a4 (5,5,5,7,3)
