I learned this as a Reverse Maya, but we got shouted at for lifting our heels πŸ™‚
Why is that, you might ask?
Because lifting the heels made it near impossible to isolate the hips, and prevent the entire body bobbing up and down, which was frowned upon.
I believe it’s just different styles these days, and back then we had a heavy emphasis on isolating the movements of the hips.
    Try it out and see!

Yes! I do that movement too – the vertical 8 upwards but with the heels on the ground. I learned it as the taqsim. It’s a good one, and a nice earthy variation of the inner hip roll. Both are fabulous!

We like to call it a scooping hip, as in scooping ice cream!

Yum! I like that name. πŸ™‚
