Today I’d like to share with you what I believe is the most versatile finger cymbal pattern in belly dance.

I wonder if you would agree?

While this simple patten is often overused, it is an important part of every finger cymbal player’s repertoire. So today I am going to break it down for you in a way that is clear and easy to understand so that you can learn to play it cleanly and musically with your dance.

    Thank you for sharing these videos. I’m an old school dancer brought up in the culture (Ibrahim Farrah was my uncle/mentor) and have played finger cymbals (sagat) since I was a child. After years of intensive music education I appreciate the fact that you define the 16th note and vocalize the sound. I was so used to Bobby’s teaching method which I use to this day but had gotten frustrated when many students would explain how they were taught in methods that ignore basic rhythm foundation education. Your sound method of teaching is refreshing and a wonderful supplement for students learning to play. Shukran!

      Yes! Thank you so much for this comments. I am also a descendent to Bobby Farrah… He was my teachers instructor. As a long time musician I feel like it’s very important for dancers who played instrument like the symbols to understand the musical method of counting! I am thrilled to hear you are a proponent as well.
